At this range of time I don't recall exactly what mechanism brought Leslie out there for the con, but her move out to the Bay Area was a direct result of her attendance there.msminlrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06335835722882375465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-680819002235773306.post-75638064155635261502019-11-03T02:42:31.781-08:002019-11-03T02:42:31.781-08:00Glory, I'd forgotten where the our published t...Glory, I'd forgotten where the our published transcriptions of Leslie's songs came from. They must have come from you. Thanks twice, then.<br /><br />And I first heard Steeleye Span when the LA Filkharmonics sung some of their numbers (including "Gaudete" at Mythcon VIII. I do have one correction: I may have "transcribed" a lot of Leslie Fish's Star Trek filk, but that would never have happened if my good friend Signe Danler (nee Landon) hadn't gone to a Chicago con (I think it was a Trek con) with a portable cassette recorder and taped Leslie's performance at the con. I was able to write back and forth to Leslie (yeah, let's hear it for Snail Mail, 'cause we didn't have anything else back then!) to get her help on the chords for the songs. But I actually HAND TRANSCRIBED those songs and several of them were published in The Other Side Of Paradise (Signe's and my mostly Trek fanzine) before they ended up in Westerfilk. And I still LOVE Banned From Argo! <br />A side note to show how music can "cross contaminate": in discussing chording with Leslie on "Iron Mistress," she told me she suddenly realized that she'd lifted the melody from Steeleye Span's version of "Blackleg Miner." Several other friends had mentioned how much they liked Steeleye Span, and this final reference from Leslie convinced me I had to go check them out. I went to a local record store and bought my first couple of Span albums—which I still have! I fell in love with Span, thanks to Leslie and others.<br />I almost forgot to mention that Signe and I also did some illustrations for the Westerfilk collection (although it might have been for volume II).Amybeaderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01545131109466402378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-680819002235773306.post-18811867645990266942015-06-17T14:45:54.623-07:002015-06-17T14:45:54.623-07:00We actually did "ose, ose, and morose" i...We actually did "ose, ose, and morose" in the Midwest as well.
